DMOZ 2.0 launching, launching … Launching???

August 5th, 2010 | Posted in News

It has been almost two years since we first learned that DMOZ will be rolling out a new version of the world’s largest directory, labeled as DMOZ 2.0. It’s been more than two years now, and we are still waiting. As we all know, DMOZ is a multilingual directory of World Wide Web links, duly supported by AOL. People related to the field of internet marketing and more specifically Search Engine Optimization know how valuable a link from this directory used to be (it still is, but not as much as it was a couple of years ago). Apparently, DMOZ 2.0 will be having a different look (thanks God), data structure and the presentation of data will also improve. Right now, DMOZ is a lackluster directory of links and descriptions but DMOZ 2.0 will bring in much needed interactivity of all kinds, with tie-ins to real-time content updates and news. DMOZ is working with the developers from AOL and the new website is being heavily tested by the group of selected DMOZ editors.

DMOZ 2.0 – SEO Perspective:

At whatever time the inevitable change come, DMOZ is probably going to get back some of its significance and traffic, still it won’t be able to reclaim the substance it used to have. There’s nothing concrete about the magnitude of change we can expect, but since the change is coming after a long wait and we assume that the holdup was due to the size of the project, we can expect a decent web 2.0 experience.
