Facebook has launched “Facebook Questions”, which is pretty much like Yahoo Answers. Have got any questions? Use “Ask Question” button and put it forward to Facebook community for answers (don’t worry if you can’t see the button, as it is a Beta version). Once public, the new feature will allow nearly 500 million users of Facebook to tap into the collective knowledge and wisdom of this gigantic social network, and get recommendations and answers on a wide variety of topics in a jiffy.
The questions and answers privacy setting is set to be Public by default (no surprise, after all it’s Facebook we are talking about). However if you are willing to ask your friends only, then you should better stick to your status updates.
The service is still in its infancy, but there’s nothing complicated about the application and we can expect that the public version will be launched in next to no time. You can also set up polls or include pictures in your questions (something that you weren’t able to do at Yahoo Answers).
Internet Marketing Perspective:
Some think that the service will pose a threat to Google, which, at the moment is kind of an overstatement. No doubt that it will be a much better alternative to Yahoo Answers but still this “threat to Google” thing is a bit puffed up. At best, it will gobble up just a very, very small percentage of Google’s traffic. However, the sheer size of Facebook user base guarantees that it will be a hit, which means it is an application worth exploring for internet marketers (500 millions users, makes your head spin, right?).
